The 2008 George J Miller Award Committee invites you to assist in identifying worthy candidates for the highest honor given by the NCGE, the Distinguished Service Award. Criteria are enumerated in the following NCGE Board approved statement: the emphasis needs to be on quality and character of contributions to geographic education, evidence of sustained effort on behalf of geographic education, and, often, the nature and extent of sevice to the NCGE.
Service to the NCGE is not the sole criteria for this award.

For this award service must be defined broadly in order to encompass all conceivable ways of contributing to geographic education including:

  • Research
  • Papers and publications
  • Teaching

  • Lobbying on behalf of geographic education
  • Significant contribution in the training of teachers
  • Development of curriculum materials
  • Service, where appropiate to the NCGE or other professional organizations
  • Administrative activities that involve service to geographic education

Please send a letter of nomination that details the nominee's contribution to geographic education to the Miller Award Chair:
