The NCGE Distinguished Mentor Awards recognize faculty members in departments of geography whose guidance and influence is significant for students becoming geographers and teachers through their work as leaders of Alliances. Nominees should be senior faculty
(i.e., 60 years of age or older) in active service or retired at a university in the United States or
Canada. Two to four Distinguished Mentors are honored with special sessions at each NCGE annual meeting.
Participants (usually three) in the special sessions honoring a Distinguished Mentor are selected from a
list of former students provided by the honoree.
